This Hindu king never lost to Mughals

The Mughal Sultanate period was marked by kings accepting the subordination of the Delhi throne, but some challenged this.

Maharana Pratap and Chhatrapati Shivaji are well-known kings who fought against the Mughals, but there was another king who was never defeated.

King Chhatrasal of the Bundela Empire is remembered for his bravery and is still celebrated in Bundelkhand.

Born on May 4, 1649, Chhatrasal's father was murdered by the Mughal emperor when he was just 12 years old.

He joined Raja Jai Singh's army and learned the Mughal fighting style before meeting Chhatrapati Shivaji, who gave him the 'Bhavani' sword.

Chhatrasal challenged the Mughals in 1671 with only 5 horsemen and 25 swordsmen, but he was able to defeat them and continue expanding his empire.

In just 10 years, the Bundela empire of Chhatrasal had spread to Chitrakoot, Gwalior, Kalpi, and Damoh.

Chhatrasal fought 52 wars during his 56-year reign and was only close to defeat once in 1728.

When the Mughal Sardar Muhammad Khan Bangash attacked Chhatrasal's kingdom in 1728, Chhatrasal sought help from Maratha Peshwa Bajirao, who came to his rescue and saved him from losing the war.
