Dating is often synonymous to love and mutual respect for each other. However, there is a new dating trend called 'throning', which has taken internet by storm.
Throning basically refers to the practice of dating for one's social status, rather than love.
According to the New York Post, 'Throning means dating someone who boosts your reputation and probably ego, just by association'.
This new dating trend is less about mutual love and respect, and more about the social status that might enhance one's visibility in society.
Interestingly, dating for one's social perks and reputation is not that uncommon. As per a study, approximately 25% of dating app users are in the quest of partners "more desirable than themselves".
The problem arises when the relationship is solely based on societal aspirations, rather than love, respect and trust.
Other than throning, new relationship trends such as masterdating, and boysober are on the rise among youngsters.
