Tipu Sultan, also known as ‘Tiger of Mysore’ was the king of Mysore. He was the eldest son of Sultan Hyder Ali, who ascended to the throne of Mysore in 1782.

Tipu Sultan reigned over the Mysore kingdom from 1782 to 1799. During his reign, Tipu Sultan engaged in numerous conflicts with the British army, showcasing his military prowess and determination to protect his kingdom from colonial powers.

Tipu Sultan, renowned for his valor in resisting the British colonial forces, left an indelible mark on history with his courageous stance against the Britishers.

However, in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War, the British East India Company supported by Marathas went on to take over Mysore in 1799.

The combined forces of British East India Company defeated Tipu Sultan. He was killed on 4 May 1799 while defending his stronghold of Seringapatam.

After the death of Tiger of Mysore, the Britishers started seizing his valuable possessions. One of Tipu’s most valuable possession was his iconic sword called ‘Sukhela.’

This formidable weapon was a symbol of authority and effectiveness in battle.

This legendary sword was not just a mere piece of metal but a symbol of bravery and resistance against enemy forces.

Interestingly, Tipu Sultan’s sword sukhela was sold for a whopping Rs 140 crore at an auction held in London.
