When did Indian Railways introduce AC in trains?

The history of railways in India is very old. Train service in India started during the British rule.

According to reports, the first passenger train in the country ran in 1853 between Bori Bunder in Mumbai and Thane. This train covered a distance of about 34 km.

Today Indian Railways has expanded a lot and one after the other comfortable coaches have been installed in the train.

 Let us tell you that initially the AC coach was called first class and only the British could travel in it. The British used to travel Initially, ice slabs were kept under the floor to cool the first class coach. After that the AC system was installed. 

The first AC facility in a train in India was given in Punjab Mail in the year 1934. After adding AC coaches, the name of this train was changed to 'Frontier Mail'.

After independence, in the year 1966, the name of Frontier Mail was changed to 'Golden Temple Mail'. Even today this train is equipped with this facility. Golden Temple Mail which used to run at a speed of 60 km per hour on steam, Punjab Mail is now running at a very high speed on electric engine

Golden Temple Mail covers a distance of about 1893 km between Mumbai and Amritsar. Passengers also get the facility of pantry in this train.
