Thirty Taliban fighters were killed and around 35 more injured when helicopter gunships pounded militant positions in several parts of the restive Orakzai tribal region in northwest Pakistan today.

Six hideouts and four vehicles were destroyed in the air strikes.

Military officials have claimed that over 700 militants have been killed since an operation was launched in Orakzai Agency to flush out the Taliban though the figure cannot be independently confirmed as journalists have no access to the conflict zone.
