Following Joe Biden's historic win in the Presidential election, he will be ready to takes office on January 20, leaving a bitter taste in Donald Trump's mouth. Adding to his woes, now Trump will lose his special privileges on Twitter.
This means that Trump's tweets face the risk of being banned if it incites 'violence' or 'posts false information' about voting or COVID-19 pandemic, The Verge reported on Saturday.
Twitter gives special privileges to world leaders and some other officials, leaving rule-breaking content online if there`s "a clear public interest value to keeping the tweet on the service."
Therefore, Trump will be treated like any other user on Twitter.
"Twitter`s approach to world leaders, candidates, and public officials is based on the principle that people should be able to choose to see what their leaders are saying with clear context," a company spokesperson was quoted as saying.
"This means that we may apply warnings and labels, and limit engagement to certain tweets. This policy framework applies to current world leaders and candidates for office, and not private citizens when they no longer hold these positions".
In a never before seen feat, Trump tweeted nearly 37 times since the vote count began on November 3, and Twitter flagged 13 of those tweets.
Trump has still not conceded his defeat on Twitter and still believes that election fraud took place.
"THE OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED INTO THE COUNTING ROOMS. I WON THE ELECTION, GOT 71,000,000 LEGAL VOTES. BAD THINGS HAPPENED WHICH OUR OBSERVERS WERE NOT ALLOWED TO SEE. NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. MILLIONS OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS WERE SENT TO PEOPLE WHO NEVER ASKED FOR THEM!" Trump tweeted, and consequently, Twitter labeled it as false information.
'The claim about election fraud is disputed,' the label read.
On Saturday, Twitter flagged nearly all tweets by Trump as he kept making "potentially misleading claims about an election" despite Democratic candidate Joe Biden winning the presidential race.
