LONDON: A couple, believed to be of Sri Lankan origin, has been arrested on charges of stabbing their two children to death in south London.

While a five-year-old boy and a four-year-old girl died from suspected stab wounds, a six-month-old baby girl was fighting for her life in hospital, police said today.

Their parents, both said to be in their thirties, are in custody and murder squad detectives and child abuse unit are investigating the incident.

The three-bedroom house was cordoned off today as forensic teams worked inside. The couple had moved into the house less than a year ago.

A neighbour said they were originally from the Tamil area of Sri Lanka.

"They moved in less than a year ago. She was still pregnant. Obviously she has had the baby now," he said.

Other neighbours reported seeing three bloodied children carried in stretchers into ambulances and the man and the woman being led away in handcuffs.

Police were called in at around 10:30 pm last night after reports of a disturbance in Park Lane in Carshalton area.
