The aircraft was carrying nine passengers "predominantly from Sundance Resources" when it disappeared on Saturday on a flight from Yaounde in Cameroon to nearby Republic of Congo.

Australian mining company Sundance Resources Ltd said on Sunday that an aircraft it chartered in Africa had gone missing with several company officials on board.

The aircraft was carrying nine passengers "predominantly from Sundance Resources" when it disappeared on Saturday on a flight from Yaounde in Cameroon to nearby Republic of Congo, the company said in a statement.

Few details were immediately available, but the company said relatives of the missing had been informed. Authorities in both countries were attempting to locate the aircraft with the assistance of Australian diplomats.

The Perth-based company has iron ore interests in both countries. It hopes to bring the Mbalam project in Cameroon into operation in 2012.
