A former pub landlord who once weighed more than 61 stone is celebrating the New Year as a new man after shedding an incredible 46 stone - thanks to a drastic gastric bypass operation.

Colin Corfield, of Runcorn, Cheshire, was a prisoner in his own bed before the £33,000 operation.

He described food as his 'best friend' and relied on family and friends to bring enormous snacks and meals to his room.

But after doctors shrunk his stomach to the size of an egg in a risky procedure that forced him to quit his addiction to food overnight, he now cannot eat any meals larger than a mince pie without feeling sick.

And Corfield is convinced that operation, which his mother Jean funded by selling her house, saved his life.

"I can honestly say the operation was the best thing that ever happened to me," the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

"But I've had a really difficult year coming to terms with how my life has changed.

"I had my final op to remove excess skin just over a year ago and it's taken me until now to feel positive about everything," he added.
