Britain today said there was still a long way for a deal on climate change to be clinched and it was open to renewal of the Kyoto Protocol in a wider context.
"We still have a long way to go before we could reach an agreement," Britain's Minister of State for Climate Change, Gregory Barker told reporters here.
He said the Conference of Parties (CoP) can make good progress at the climate talks in Durban later this month but indicated that a deal was unlikely.
Barker said Britain was open to renewal of the Kyoto Protocol, the key global pact on tackling climate change, but it has to be done in a wider context.
"We are certainly open to have a second commitment period but it has to be in a wider context," he said.
Barker was interacting with reporters on the sidelines of a function to release the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) India 200 report organised by the CII and WWF.
The CDP report, in its fifth year of publication, states that more Indian companies, of the top 200 on the basis of market capitalisation, had responded to questions on actions taken by them to tackle climate change.
"This year 28.5 per cent (57) companies from India 200 responded to the CDP questionnaire, compared to 51 companies in 2010," the report said.
Releasing the report, Barker said that governments across the world should provide businesses with a clear, long-term vision and commitment and leave it to businesses to take action.
