BAGHDAD: A car bomb killed at least five people and wounded fifteen when it exploded on a busy commercial street in a mainly Shi'ite district of Baghdad.

The bomb, triggered by remote control, reportedly targeted shoppers on the main street of the New Baghdad district.

Insurgents have often targeted Shi'ite strongholds in central Iraq with bombings as part of a wider sectarian conflict that threatens to spark all-out civil war and undermine a Shi'ite-led government of national unity.
