Even as the former Navy SEAL who wrote a book on the killing of Osama bin Laden faces investigation over a paragraph where he mentioned the use of night vision goggles (NVG) by the elite teams, it is reported that the night gear is available to buy online - for 35,000 dollars.
The Washington Times reported that an investigation was launched into the passage that could result in criminal charges, but the national security website Defense One reported that anyone can legally buy the goggles if they have a big enough bank account. In the controversial paragraph, the ex-Navy SEAL says that unlike some of the conventional units, the teams had NVGs with four tubes instead of the usual two, allowing them a field of view of 120 degrees instead of just 40 degrees.
According to Defense One, the technology is available on Amazon or eBay for 35,000 dollars. The report further revealed that officials who spoke on condition of anonymity told the website that the device was not classified.
