Gunmen kidnaps three British workers, one Colombian in Nigeria

Kidnappings for ransom are common in the oil-producing Niger Delta with hundreds of incidents reported each year.

Gunmen in Nigeria kidnapped three British workers and one Colombian on Tuesday in an attack on their convoy near the oil hub Port Harcourt, security sources told Reuters.                                           

A Nigerian security officer was killed in the incident, which took place early Tuesday as the expatriates traveled to work. No group has claimed responsibility.                                           

"The four were expatriates from Netco contractors working at the Afam power plant," one security source said.
