MOSCOW: Sergei Tsivilev, first deputy general director of MiG Aircraft Corporation, has been investigated by Moscow prosecutors for fraud, a company spokesman for the Russian aeronautical group said on Wednesday.
"The prosecutor's office in Moscow has accused Mr. Tsivilev of fraud," MiG spokeswoman Elena Fedorova said according to the Ria-Novosti news agency.
The prosecutor's office confirmed that an investigation had been opened, but refused to provide any details.
According to Wednesday's Kommersant daily, the investigation has been concluded.
"According to the inquiry, the case concerns an attempt to sell counterfeit spare parts of MiG-29 fighter jets to Poland," the paper reported.
"MiG has more than 2,000 partners The Moscow prosecutor has accused one of our enterprises of supplying second-hand parts," Fedorova said, adding that Tsivilev could not be held accountable for the quality of 2,000 subcontractors.
After many years in the red, MiG turned in a net profit of $4.5 million last year on sales of $248.5 million.
