The International Monetary Fund's 187 member countries on Saturday called for urgent action to bolster the Fund's role in surveillance over macroeconomic policies.

The International Monetary Fund's 187 member countries on Saturday called for urgent action to bolster the Fund's role in surveillance over macroeconomic policies that might pose a threat to stability.                                           
 
"Further action is urgently needed to reinforce the institution's role and effectiveness as a global body for macro-financial surveillance and policy collaboration," the IMF said in a closing communique.
