India has approved further assistance of shelter material worth over USD 2.6 million besides augmenting its demining teams for speedy resettlement of over 2.8 lakh internally displaced Tamil civilians in Wanni in northern Sri Lanka.
 
In continuation of the ongoing assistance package to Sri Lanka for rehabilitation in the Northern Province, the Indian Government will be supplying a second consignment of 2600 MT of galvanised corrugated sheets, to be used as shelter material for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP), a release by the Indian High Commission here said.
 
The total expenditure involved in procuring these items is USD 2.65 million, it said, adding that India had earlier delivered the first consignment of galvanised sheets to Sri Lanka in August this year.
 
Also, to accelerate the ongoing resettlement programme for the IDPs, India has also approved augmentation of strength of Indian demining teams in Wanni region, it said.

Two more teams have been approved to join the ongoing demining work and further approval for one more team is expected shortly, it release said.
 
This is in addition to the four demining teams from India currently operating in various areas in northern Sri Lanka, it said.
