Indian-origin appointed in Cambridge

Inderjit Seehra, a Jamshedpur-born British civil servant, has been appointed to the key position of director of Human Resources at the University of Cambridge.

LONDON: Inderjit Seehra, a Jamshedpur-born British civil servant, has been appointed to the key position of director of Human Resources at the University of Cambridge.

Seehra, who currently works at the Home Office, will take up the post in September 2008.

As the HR director, Seehra will support the management of nearly 8,000 staff across the university, including experts in various disciplines in various faculties and departments.

Born in Jamshedpur, he studied at the Loyola School before moving to England and completing his secondary education at The Heathland School in West London.

He studied at Portsmouth University and Sheffield Business School before graduating with a Masters in Organisational Development.

In 1999, Seehra joined the Civil Service as HR Director for the Crown Prosecution Service. Other postings have included heading the HR and Customer Services portfolio for the Pension Service.

Seehra is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a regular speaker at leadership conferences.

A university release said as a Sikh, Seehra has an active interest in the ongoing development of Sikhism in England and is a regular participant in events held by the British Sikh Society.

Welcoming the appointment, Jonathan Nicholls, the University Registrary, said: "Human Resources is an integral part of the overall good management and best practice of the University and we look forward to Indi (Seehra) further developing this important function and continuing to foster strong and positive working relationships both internally and externally."
