A magnitude-5.3 quake struck in Guatemala on Saturday, about 60 miles (97km) from the country's border with Mexico, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
The quake was centred about 53 miles (85km) north-northeast of Huehuetenango, Guatemala, at a depth of 51 miles (82km), the US Geological Survey said.
An official at Guatemala's national emergency response agency, Conred, said there were no signs of damage or injuries in the sparsely populated rural area.
Earlier on Saturday, a 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Guantanamo city in eastern Cuba on Saturday, sending residents fleeing into the streets. A local government official said there were no casualties.
