A controversial Nepalese lawmaker, who had won last year's Constituent Assembly polls despite being in the 'most wanted' list of the police, was arrested in a murder case.

Police arrested Baban Singh from the southern town of Birgunj on Saturday for his alleged involvement in the murder of businessman Rajesh Kyal.

The independent lawmaker has been detained based on the statement recorded by one of the suspects arrested three weeks ago in connection with the December murder, media reports said here.

Singh, an accused in the September 2, 2007 blasts in Kathmandu which had killed three persons and injured 25, won the Constituent Assembly elections from Rautahat Constituency-1 while he was still in hiding.

However, he later started attending assembly meetings.
