Nepal authorities on Monday unveiled a new promotional logo and slogan in an effort to revive the country's tourist industry which was severely hit following the deadly earthquake in April.
The National Tourism Promotion Committee (NTPC) wants to convey a message that Nepal is open for business and is ready to welcome tourists in autumn. Speaking at the unveiling program, Tourism Minister Kripasur Sherpa said that Nepal has been facing a decline in tourist numbers after the earthquake.
"Despite the reduction in number of tourists, we are committed to revive the tourism industry and are confident that the new logo and slogan will again take Nepal to the top of the world," he hoped. Despite the major earthquake in April and a strong aftershock in May and a number of tremors since that shook the country, Nepal has been working hard on recovering and building back better than ever before.
Most of Nepal's cultural monuments, trekking and mountaineering trails and tourist attractions are intact and operating and waiting to welcome visitors. The logo and slogan are part of a concerted effort to revive the tourism industry and send a message to the world that life in Nepal is back to normal, according to NTPC.
The logo consists of a Nepalese national flag, temples, monuments and mountains in the background along with the slogan - 'Nepal: Back on Top of the World'. Nepal is still recovering after the devastating quake that struck the Himalayan nation on April 25 killing nearly 9,000 people and leaving a trail of destruction. The quake badly hit the country's tourism sector which brings in much of its foreign revenue, mostly from mountaineers looking to climb Mount Everest, the world's highest peak.
