Former Nepal Prime Minister KP Oli said there is no need to amend the new Constitution as it will not serve anyone's interest and will only stagnate the country's journey to prosperity.
"Whose interest are we going to fulfil by demarcating the provincial boundary by separating Terai from hilly and mountainous region?" Oli, the main opposition leader and chairman of the CPN-UML, questioned.
Addressing the concluding ceremony of a training programme organised by the party's Central School Department here, Oli said, "the amendment was demanded to push the Constitution implementation into the shadow and block Nepal's journey towards prosperity."
He said Nepalese are not demanding any amendment to the Constitution.
"Now, there is no need of amendment the Constitution," Oli said.
Oli also claimed that the former government led by him was toppled after it initiated attempts for attaining prosperity for the country.
Re-demarcating the provincial boundary by separating Terai from hilly and Himalayan regions was the key demand of Madhesis -- mostly of Indian-origin.
Meanwhile, vice-president of the party, Bam Dev Gautam said that "the demand for amendment to the constitution by re-demarcating the provincial boundary was the foreign design to disintegrate the country."
CPN- UML cannot endorse such a demand, he said addressing a programme in Pyuthan district of western Nepal.
The minority has led months-long violent protest seeking better representation in the Parliament and the federal structure of the Constitution that divides their ancestral homeland, forcing Oli to resign as Prime Minister.
