US president Barack Obama received the gold Nobel Peace Prize medal and diploma in a lavish ceremony in the Norwegian capital on Thursday.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee in October chose Obama as this year's Peace Prize laureate for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples" and "work for a world without nuclear weapons."
