One killed as terrorists strike 2 police stations in Lahore

A policeman was killed and six others were injured in two terrorist attacks targeting police stations in eastern Pakistani city of Lahore today, officials said.In the first incident, two low-intensity explosive devices went off outside a police station near the Mall Road early in the day. The blasts injured four policemen and destroyed two vehicles.Superintendent of police (Civil Lines division) Haider Asraf said a timed device planted beneath a vehicle parked on Lytton Road, 200 feet from the police station, went off with a big bang.After policemen rushed to the spot, another timed device planted beneath a police vehicle exploded, injuring two officers and as many policemen.Haider said at least one to 2kg of explosives were used in both devices.The injured were rushed to Mayo Hospital, where doctors said they were in a stable condition.In the second attack, a policeman was killed and two others were injured when two motorcycle-borne attackers fired indiscriminately at the Gulshan-e-Ravi police station, located about 5km from the Mall Road police station.Superintendent police (Iqbal Town division) Ali Javed Malik said the assailants struck at a time when one shift was being replaced by another.A constable who was sitting in a police vehicle was killed on the spot.Malik said the terrorists continued firing for about one-and-half minutes before fleeing.At least seven policemen have been killed in similar terrorist attacks in Lahore during the past two months.
