The Pakistan government today handed over to New Delhi a list of Indian prisoners currently being held in the country's jails.

A statement from the Foreign Office said the list of Indian prisoners, including fishermen, was handed over to an official of the Indian High Commission.

The statement did not give the number of Indian prisoners in Pakistani jails though diplomatic sources said the list included the names of over 500 fishermen and over 40 other prisoners.

India and Pakistan are required to exchange lists of prisoners in each other’s custody on January 1 and July 1 every year in accordance with provisions of the Agreement on Consular Access signed by the two countries in May last year.
