LOS ANGELES: Canadian pop star Avril Lavigne, famed for her feisty anthem Sk8er Boi, married fellow musician Deryck Whibley in California on Saturday, according to People magazine.
The outdoor, nondenominational ceremony took place at a private estate in the coastal city of Montecito, 90 miles northwest of Los Angeles, with about 110 guests in attendance, the magazine said.
Lavigne, 21, and Whibley, the 26-year-old lead singer of Canadian rock band Sum 41, had been engaged for about a year.
Lavigne, a native of Napanee, Ontario, burst onto the scene in 2002 with her debut album Let Go, which sold more than 14 million copies worldwide. As opposed to other teen startlets, Lavigne not only sang live, but also played guitar at the helm of a scrappy-looking band.
Whibley enjoys success in his own right with Sum 41, a boisterous combo whose debut album All Killer No Filler also went multi-platinum.
