DUBAI: Dubai, famous for authentic jewellery, has initiated a unique service using laser inscription to engrave Eid greetings on diamond.

International Diamond Laboratories, a Dubai Government initiative to provide diamond certification, is offering a unique service using laser inscription to inscribe Eid greetings on diamonds.

"Greeting friends and family and giving them memorable gifts during Eid are traditions which are very much cherished to this day. With our laser inscription services, it is now possible to give it a modern twist with diamonds," said Peter Meeus, CEO of IDL.

"Happy Ramadan", "Happy Eid" and "Eid Mubarak", are the popular inscription requests that IDL has received during the Holy Month.

"We initially launched the laser inscription to write IDL certificate number on diamonds and protect their identity. Now it is being widely used by customers to convey personal messages. We see this as a growing trend," Meeus said.

IDL uses cold laser technology to do the inscription, which ensures that the diamond is in no way damaged. The minimum font size is 30 micron (= 0.03 mm) and the size of the diamond should be at least 20 pointers (0.20 carat) or more, he said.
