Scottish politician Humza Yousaf swears oath to Queen Elizabeth in Urdu, wearing a kilt

Humza Yousaf took his oath in Urdu at the Scottish Parliament.

In a display of multiculturalism, Humza Yousaf swore his oath to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth at the Scottish Parliament in Urdu, while wearing a kilt.

A member of the Scottish National Party, Humza Yousaf secured a seat from the Glasgow constituency. 

He took the oath in English and then in Urdu, as a tribute to his roots, the translation of which would be in the lines of "I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth" and concluded with "so help me God".

While he received some backlash from Twitter, there was also a lot of appreciation from people.

Considering the general public disposition towards Islam and its association with the language Urdu, Humza Yousaf's oath received some attention.  However, the Scottish Parliament, on the day saw some of the other local dialects of Gael, Scot and Doric.
