ISLAMABAD: Exiled former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his brother are likely to return to the Islamic nation before September 10, the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) has said.

Sharif's party adopted a resolution on Saturday, recommending that the deposed Premier and his brother Shahbaz Sharif should return to Pakistan by September 10 that is, before the presidential elections, the media reported on Sunday.

The recommendation came two days after the Supreme Court had ruled that the Sharif brothers were free to return home. Both the brothers had filed identical petitions seeking an end to their "forced" exile so that they can take part in the upcoming general elections.

A high-level party delegation would soon visit Sharif in London to finalise his return schedule and to ensure that no hurdles should be created in the process, PML-N sources told the media.

According to the sources, "Sharif's return is very essential for holding free, fair and transparent general elections slated for later this year in the country. The party will ensure that he returns as soon as possible."

It may be mentioned that after the apex court verdict, the PML-N chief had said he would return to Pakistan despite warning by the government that he might be arrested on his arrival home. However, he has not yet given any possible return date.
