A suicide bomber today rammed his explosives-laden vehicle into a police station in an area near the lawless South Waziristan tribal region in northwest Pakistan, killing five persons and injuring three others.
The attacker drove his vehicle into the boundary wall of the police station in Gomal, located 20 km from Tank city on the road to South Waziristan.
A policeman and a boy who was passing the area were among the five persons killed in the attack. The boy's mother
and two persons being held in the police station's lock-up were among those injured.
An emergency was declared in hospitals in Tank district. The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital in Tank. The police station collapsed due to the blast.
Security forces cordoned off the area as rescue workers began clearing the rubble. Pakistan has witnessed a wave of deadly bombings and suicide attacks since the army launched operations against the Taliban in South Waziristan in October last year. Hundreds of people have died in these attacks, which have been blamed on the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan.
