WASHINGTON: It sounds strange, but it's true. A US couple experienced their first kiss at the altar, ending their two-year-long wait.

Melody LaLuz and Claudaniel Fabien, both from Chicago who teach abstinence at the city's public schools, kissed each other first time on Saturday at the altar after a yearlong courtship and two-year friendship, Chicago Tribune reported.

Laluz, the 28-year-old bride, and Fabien, 30, said they practised what they preached to their teenage students, it said.

To avoid temptation while dating, the couple made sure they were never alone together in a house.

It really tested us and encouraged us to grow closer in our hearts and our minds, just expressing things verbally, Fabien was quoted as saying by the Chicago Tribune.

LaLuz and Fabien say they have no worries about their honeymoon in Bahamas.
