United States President Barack Obama had broached the topic of North Korea’s nuclear test with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, discussing steps for a proper response to the violation of the international obligations of North Korea, according to the White House.
The White House stated that Obama and Abe vowed to work together to seek significant action against North Korea at the United Nations Security Council, and planned to cooperate on measures aimed at obstructing the country’s nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, Politico reports.
Obama also reiterated that the US has not swerved from its defence commitments to Japan, including the extended deterrence offered by the US nuclear umbrella.
