US national held for smuggling Buddha statues

An American national, working for the USAID in Pakistan, has been arrested for attempting to smuggle statues of Lord Buddha to Boston.

ISLAMABAD: An American national, working for the USAID in Pakistan, has been arrested for attempting to smuggle statues of Lord Buddha to Boston, a senior customs official said.
 
Acting on a tip-off, customs officials intercepted Michael Dadir Sinclair at Islamabad airport and recovered the antiques, said the unnamed official.
 
The Islamic nation's archaeology department has also confirmed that the seized articles are genuine antiques and valuing million of rupees.
 
Legal proceedings under the Customs and Antiquity Act have been initiated against the US national, the official said.
