LAHORE: The United Nations Security Council has put on hold a US request to declare a Pakistan-based jehadi organisation, Jamaatul Daawa (JuD) a terrorist group until the US provides substantial evidences to establish the JuD’s linkages either with the Al-Qaeda or with the Taliban militia.

According to some highly placed foreign office sources in Islamabad, the US had forwarded the case to ‘Al-Qaeda, Taliban Sanctions Committee’ of the UNSC, seeking the inclusion of the JuD in the list of terrorist groups. The sources said the Chinese government had actually stepped in on Pakistan's intervention and the status quo continues.
