WASHINGTON: The United States praised Pakistan on Monday for playing "a very important role" in foiling the alleged British airline bomb plot and helping in the broader war on terrorism.
"The Pakistanis, as the British have pointed out, played a very important role in breaking this cell," White House spokesman Tony Snow said.
"And (Pakistan) President (Pervez) Musharraf has certainly taken considerable risks in moving against terror. And we welcome all advancements in breaking into the terror network," said Snow.
Over the weekend, Pakistan security agents said a British Al-Qaeda suspect gave Pakistani agents critical details of an alleged plot to bomb US-bound jets, enabling Britain to smash the conspiracy.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair telephoned Musharraf on Friday to thank him for his help.
