The United States will soon provide five helicopters to Pakistan to deal effectively with insurgents, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said today.

These helicopters will be used by civil law enforcement agencies working under the interior ministry, which will now have 13 helicopters at its disposal, he said.

Malik, who is accompanying President Asif Ali Zardari on a visit to the US, said senior American officials had conveyed the decision to provide the choppers to him.

He said the US is prepared to help Pakistan in its fight against militants. "We have had very useful meetings with senior US
security officials," Malik told state-run APP news agency in Washington.

Zardari is in Washington to attend a trilateral meeting with US President Barack Obama and his Afghan counterpart
