MONTREAL: A youth died in a Toronto hospital on Wednesday after an unknown assailant shot him at a local high school, police said.
"There was a radio-call for a shooting at a school in Toronto," said Constable George Schuurman of the Toronto Police Service.
The victim, believed to be 14 years old, was rushed to hospital but did not survive, chief Bill Blair later said.
"A young man lost his life, a young student lost his life in the school," Blair said.
The school was briefly locked down in the afternoon as police searched for the shooter.
But Blair said he had 'no information at the present time with respect to suspects.'
"The only information we have is that this young man was found with a single gunshot wound," he said.
