US Presidential Election 2024: Kamala Harris tops Donald Trump in Iowa in new poll
Trump secured victory in Iowa during his previous two presidential campaigns, winning by more than 9 percentage points in 2016 and by 8 points in 2020.
U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris has surpassed Republican Donald Trump in a new poll in Iowa, with likely women voters responsible for the turnaround in a state that Trump easily won in 2016 and 2020, according to a Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll released on Saturday, Reuters reports.
The poll of 808 likely voters, who were surveyed Oct. 28-31, has Harris leading Trump 47%-44% in Iowa, which has been trending deeply Republican in recent years. It is within the 3.4 percentage point margin of error, but it marked a turnaround from a September Iowa Poll that had Trump with a 4-point lead, the newspaper reported.
"The poll shows that women — particularly those who are older or who are politically independent — are driving the late shift toward Harris," the Register said. Trump secured victory in Iowa during his previous two presidential campaigns, winning by more than 9 percentage points in 2016 and by 8 points in 2020.

Earlier, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed Kamala Harris’ lead over Donald Trump by a single percentage, however, her lead witnessed a gradual dip since late September.
As the US presidential election approaches its final days, all eyes are set on the swing states as they decide the electoral outcomes. Since Republicans hold their fort in the Red States and the Blue States are dominated by Democrats, the swing states become a battleground as their vote share decides the outcome on the voting day.
Wisconsin has close competition with Trump and Harris’ vote shares projected at 49.7 per cent and 48.6 per cent respectively.
In North Carolina, Trump leads with 50.5 per cent to Harris’ 47.1 per cent according to AtlasIntel poll. In Georgia, Pennsylvania and Michigan, his projections are 50.1 per cent, 49.6 per cent and 49.7 per cent respectively, while Harris holds 47.6 per cent, 47.8 per cent and 48.2 per cent chances respectively.
According to an AtlasIntel poll, 49 per cent of respondents have claimed that they would cast their votes in favour of Trump in the upcoming presidential election. The survey included nearly 2500 voters in the US. The poll said Trump holds a wide margin in the major part of Arizona with 52.3 per cent to Harris’ 45.8 per cent. In Nevada, he has an edge over Harris with 51.2 per cent.
