Higher education minister Aravind Limbavali on Wednesday patted the vice-chancellors and administrative staff of various universities in the state for their excellent performance.

“Vice-chancellors of all state universities are doing a good job,” Limbavali told reporters after attending the Dr BR Ambedkar birth anniversary celebrations in Bangalore University(BU).

When asked about a recent comment made by governor HR Bhardwaj on the indiscipline prevailing in state universities, Limbavali said, “During my visits to the universities, I have not come across any indiscipline on the part vice-chancellors or administrative staff. The governor may have received some complaints. If he brings it to my notice, I will take necessary action. But so far, I have not received any such complaints from anybody.”

The governor had appointed an inquiry committee under the chairmanship of a retired high court judge to look into the alleged irregularities and indiscipline in BU, and the alleged spat between the vice-chancellor, N Prabhu Dev, and registrars MG Krishnan and MS Talwar. “Let the committee first submit the inquiry report. After that, I will meet the governor to discuss the recommendations of the panel, and we will then decide on the future course of action,” he said.

The minister also said that the trifurcation of BU was stuck with some technical problems. “We have taken the decision to divide the university based on a report submitted by a committee set up to study the issue. At present, the proposal has been stuck because of some technical problems,” he said.
