A forensic report has confirmed that the three sisters found dead in Delhi six months ago starved to death. Initially, foul play was suspected to have caused the deaths of the girls aged two, four and eight.

The incident led to a huge public outcry, with both BJP and Congress attacking the Aam Aadmi Party government leading to a magisterial probe into the matter. Thursday's forensic report has put a big question mark on the capital's governance and food security schemes, seeing it has the country's second-highest income.

"After going through the post-mortem dated July 25, 2018, and viscera report of FSL (Forensic Science Laboratory) Rohini, Delhi and histopathology report dated October 16, 2018, of the deceased, the board members are of the opinion that the cause of death was emaciation and severe malnutrition," says the report accessed by DNA. The final report, prepared on November 5, 2018, by the Department of Forensic Medicine of GTB confirms that death was not caused by poisoning.

At first, police suspected that the girls died of natural causes, but suspicions were raised by medicine bottles lying around the house. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia order a magisterial probe into the matter.

The macabre incident came to light on July 25, 2018, when Bina Singh and a family friend, went into a hospital with the bodies of her three daughters. The doctors declared them brought dead and informed the police. When the cops asked Bina how her children died, "Give me food," she mumbled and nearly collapsed.

The family lived at Talab Chowk in Mandawali, and the father Mangal Singh, a rickshaw-puller, has been untraceable since the matter came to light.
