Interrogation of Usman aka Naveed, Pakistani militant captured alive while on run after attacking a BSF convoy – which killed two jawans and injured 11 others – in Udhampur district of Jammu, has thrown up some startling facts about the indoctrination and terror matrix across the other side of the Line of Control.

While Usman aka Naveed from Faisalabad was captured alive by the locals on Wednesday, another militant was gunned down in the retaliatory action by BSF men at Samroli on the Jammu-Srinagar highway.

Usman told the interrogators that he infiltrated some 10 to 12 days before and was on a mission to seek revenge for the atrocities on the Kashmiri people.

He also said he was part of a two-member group who crossed in. He identified his associate as Momin of Bhawalpur Pakistan.

Usman comes from a rather well-to-do family. One of his brothers is said to be a lecturer while another is running a hosiery business in Faisalabad. He has one sister. Usman has not studied much.

The duo, after crossing into Indian side, has been navigating in the jungles before they reached Jammu and then Udhampur where they attacked the BSF convoy, killing two jawans and injuring 11 others. He told his interrogators that he does not know any other group and only two had crossed from across the LoC perhaps from the Poonch side.

Usman, a battle-hardened militant, was so much indoctrinated that he showed little remorse when caught by the security forces. In a short video captured on mobile phone, he was smiling and told the people not to abuse him though he will not mind thrashing.

He told the people that his food stocks lasted for just three days but later they barged into someone's house and stole the food. Asked why he infiltrated, he was candid to say to attack and avenge the atrocities inflicted on the Kashmiris.

However, the investigators are taking his statement with a pinch of salt given his flip-flop during questioning. Investigators are wary that he is a part of two-member group. They suspect it could be a larger group, which has been pushed to revive militancy in Jammu division.

Investigators feel that though the attack at Udhampur has the Lashkar-e-Tioba imprints, they are not ruling out the hand of Jaish-e-Mohommad, given Faisalabad's allegiance to Moulana Masood Azhar, who was released in lieu of passengers of hijacked Indian Airlines flight IC 814.

What investigators fear is that the Pakistani security establishment might be working a different plan to revive militancy in Jammu division.

"While Kashmir has seen surge in the home-grown militancy, Jammu is rather oblivious to terror attacks. Pakistan's gameplan is while local militants will keep pot boiling in Kashmir, there is a need to send foreign cadres to Jammu to replenish militant ranks," said a senior officer.

Will figure in NSA level talks
Described a big catch by the security forces, the capture of Usman implicates Pakistan's ISI for continuing its terror factories unabated despite promises by Pakistani government to the contrary. Usman is the second LeT terrorist to be caught alive after Mohammed Ajmal Kasab, one of the 10 fidayeens who had launched 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. The matter, sources said, will be broached by India during NSA level talks between India and Pakistan.

Did it for Bharat Mata: Rakesh
Two young bravehearts from Jammu and Kashmir – Rakesh Kumar Sharma and Bikarmjit Sharma – have made India proud after they displayed exemplary courage and valour by risking their lives to overpower the heavily-armed Pakistani militant before handing him over to the security forces in the Narsoo-Dharmthal village in Udhampur district. "I did it for Bharat Mata. So what if we do not have a job, we want to do something for the country," said Rakesh.

    On a 'revenge' mission

Usman aka Naveed, who hails from Faisalabad, told the interrogators that he infiltrated some 10 to 12 days ago, and that he was on a mission to seek revenge for the 'atrocities' being committed on the Kashmiri people. Usman comes from a rather well-to-do family. One of his brothers is said to be a lecturer while another is running a hosiery business in Faisalabad. He has one sister. Usman is not well educated.
