Sulking Maharashtra Congress spokesman Anant Gadgil, son of late VN Gadgil and an aspirant for a Rajya Sabha ticket, says he has been neglected by the party and asked the leadership whether "clean image" is a liability.

In a letter to party chief Sonia Gandhi, Gadgil, who has spent 17 years in various capacties in the state unit including as vice president and general secretary, wondered "whether my sincerity, loyalty, dedication and efficiency will ever be recognised and rewarded in the party?"

Gadgil, who is the grand-son of the late NV Gadgil, who was a member of the first Union Cabinet in independent India, lamented that he has been "neglected in a party which has a tradition of rewarding those who work hard for the organisation, especially the spokespersons".

He told the leadership that during the last five years, when he has been the spokesperson of the Maharashtra PCC, there was "not a single controversy" about his role. "Whether clean image has no news value in politics?" he asked.

Regretting that he has been neglected over the years despite several assurances, Gadgil asked "Is it the work of my late grand-father who spent 10 years of his life in jail fighting the British rule or my father who breathed his last as a true congressman has no relevance in today's politics?".

Gadgil's letter to Gandhi has come ahead of the elections next month for two Rajya Sabha seats and three legislative council seats, requesting her to consider his case in the nominations.

There have been aspirants galore for the Congress nominations including a number of former party MPs, former ministers and senior leaders. Gadgil was also an aspirant for the Lok Sabha seat from Pune in the last elections, a seat represented by his father and grandfather.
