Women BJP MLAs met chief minister Narendra Modi on the eve of International Women's Day under the leadership of state women and child welfare minister, Anandiben Patel.

The CM greeted them and wished they would be an example for other women to follow.

Anandiben also proposed in the assembly that the house should express its good wishes to the women in the state.

She tabled to proposal to express good wishes in the house and Congress's only woman MLA Chandrikaben Baria seconded the proposal.
There are 16 women MLAs in the 12th Gujarat Assembly. The minister of state for women and child welfare Vasuben Trivedi also supported the proposal.

After the session, talking to DNA about the future of women in politics, Vasuben Trivedi said, "Women's power and abilities are getting opportunities in politics now. Today there are 15 women MLAs in the assembly from the BJP party. I would say each of them has their own unique skill by which they are helping society and the party too. Women are becoming more and more educated and powerful. In this scenario they should have their own political vision for bringing about change in society."

She added, "There are provisions for 33% reservation for women in the elections of institutes of local self governance and in days to come it will be further expanded to assembly and the parliament level up to 50%. There is an element of competition in all the areas of life for the women, but they should tackle this competition without compromising on anything."

Vibhavariben Dave, MLA from Bhavnagar (North), said, "Women have basic qualities of sincerity and honesty. If these qualities are merged with will and zeal to work for society, women can bring pride to their sex."
