Justice Shah to be chief justice of Calcutta High Court

Shah had been in the position of acting chief justice of Gujarat High Court after the elevation of chief justice KS Radhakrishnan to the Supreme Court.

Justice MS Shah, senior-most judge of Gujarat High Court, has been elevated as the chief justice of  Calcutta High Court by the president of India. The official communication has been sent to the high court in this regard. Shah had been in the position of acting chief justice of Gujarat High Court after the elevation of chief justice KS Radhakrishnan to the Supreme Court.

During his tenure, Justice Shah has given many landmark judgments and taken keen academic interest in the field of law. He has delivered a number of lectures and presented papers on various subjects of law. He is also among the pioneers of the Alternative Dispute Redressal (ADR) process, including mediation.

Confirming the news, registrar-general PP Bhatt said, "Justice Shah has been elevated to Calcutta High Court and he will take oath of his new office in Kolkata on December 24."
Justice Shah was elevated as a judge of Gujarat High Court on September 18, 1995 and was confirmed on the post in June 1997.

Justice Shah has delivered a number of lectures and participated in law conferences and seminars at national and international levels. Justice Shah is also a visiting faculty at National Judicial Academy in Bhopal and also at Gujarat State Judicial Academy in Ahmedabad.

Justice Shah did his BA in political science and won Aurobindo Prize for standing first in university.  In 1976, he got gold medal in LLB examination.
