The 50 recruits and commandos of the city police, who participated in the Sabarmati half-marathon, may not have come first in the event, but they surely do believe in learning from the winners.

For, some of the half-marathon winners are all set to share a few tips and tricks about marathon running with the commandos and recruits of the city police.

Three Kenyans, who participated in the half-marathon, along with the A'bad Distance Runners will organise a two-day workshop on marathon running at the police headquarters on Friday and Saturday.

It was when the three Kenyans Joel Melly, Philip Bor and Joseph Kitchumua had gone to meet JCP Special Branch Shamsher Singh that the latter came up with the idea. Melly finished 5th in the Sabarmati half-marathon while Bor came in 6th.

The three will also run with the recruits and commandos.

They will be accompanied by members of A'bad Distance Runners. “The next year we plan to run in the full marathon. I think the Kenyans, who participated in the event and clocked a good time, can further motivate the men. The three Kenyans will also be running with around 300 recruits and 50 other cops and commandos as part of the workshop," said Singh.

Naren Tailor, a member of Ahmedabad Distance Runners, said the Kenyans will talk to the recruits about how to prepare for marathons and share their experience. They will be accompanied by Lihat Trivedi, president of the Runners, who will translate the talk for the recruits. The Kenyans had stayed back after Sabarmati Marathon to train for the Jaipur Marathon on January 22.

"We will talk to cops and recruits about how we train for the marathons," said Melly.
