Rawat’s bail hearing now on April 20

The sessions judge RN Patel has posted further hearing in the bail application of Bhagawat Rawat, an accused in the dummy writers scam, for April 20. SS Jhala, advocate for Rawat will now argue his case on April 20.

Rawat's bail application was earlier rejected on April 8 by a metropolitan magistrate.

He is behind bars after he was arrested by the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on April 6 for his alleged role in the dummy writers scam which happened in March 2008 during the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) examinations.

According to police, Rawat had allegedly dictated answers to Harsh Kotak and Komal Patel, children of well-known builders, at the AG school examination center in Navrangpura.

Rawat had contended in his bail application that the police falsely implicated him and he is innocent. He also said that he has not played any role in the alleged offence.

He further argued that he does not have a criminal record and is a post graduate. He said that he has to look after his family and hence there is no possibility of his absconding. He also agreed to co-operate with the police at any point of time.
