The Andhra Pradesh assembly was today adjourned for the day without transacting any business after the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) stalled the proceedings demanding that the House pass the resolution favouring separate Telangana.

As soon as the House assembled for the day, the TRS members demanded that the resolution be passed.

As the TRS members, who also gave an adjournment motion on the Telangana issue, moved into the well of the house, the speaker N Kirankumar Reddy adjourned the house for 15 minutes.

The party's legislators continued to remain seated near the speaker's podium and raised slogans after the House re-assembled following which the speaker adjourned the House again for 30 minutes.

The unrelenting TRS legislators raised slogans when the house met again. They returned to their seats after the Speaker promised to give an opportunity to the TRS floor leader E Rajender to speak.

The speaker then went on to announce the appointment of information minister J Geetha Reddy as the Congress floor leader and that all the questions deemed to have been answered.

Legislative affairs minister D Prasada Rao suggested that the house take up debate on the agenda decided in the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, but the TRS floor leader asserted that Telangana issue is important than anything else.

The speaker, however, said he has to go by the decision taken in the business advisory committee meeting and that the Telangana issue is also scheduled for discussion.

Legislative affairs minister Rao also reminded that the House has to function as per the decision taken in the BAC.

Amid the debate on which issue should be taken up first, the Speaker asked the TRS members including T Harish Rao to keep the tempers cool and he proceeded to take up the scheduled debate on drought and floods.

As the TRS members protested and Harish Rao moved into the well, the speaker adjourned the House for the day. Later, talking to reporters in the assembly premises Harish Rao said his party would not allow the House to function unless the Assembly passes the resolution for separate Telangana.
