Tests at AMC’s new lab to get costlier now

Getting a health test done at the laboratory of civic body will now be expensive for citizens. At the meeting of the health committee of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) held on Monday, it was decided to hike the rates for conducting a test in the newly-inaugurated health laboratory of the city.

Till now, for consumer or commercial type of testing, the rates were as nominal as Rs20. But now there will be different rates for commercial (industrial) and consumer (individual) use. "For consumer, the new rates will be Rs50, but for commercial purpose, the cost of conducting a test will be Rs100," said Rashmikant Shah, chairman of health committee. The newly inaugurated laboratory has modern facilities with different equipment. A microbiological department has been started by the civic body. The proposal to hike the rates has been approved by the committee and has been sent to the standing committee for its approval.

Various problems of central zone like the condition of public toilets and hygiene in the zone were discussed during the zero hours. The committee also studied the report on work done by malaria department of AMC and the health flying squad to prevent the spread of the disease.
