Woman shot dead; girl raped at gunpoint in Uttar Pradesh

A woman was shot dead by unidentified assailants in her house in kheri villager.

Sharmishta, wife of Satish Kumar, was fired at by the attackers who came on a motorcycle yesterday, police said today, adding she died on the spot police.

Police are investigating the case.

In another incident, a girl was allegedly raped at gunpoint by a youth at Umerpur village.

The victim had gone to relieve herself when she was dragged by the youth into a sugarcane field, where he raped her, police said.

The girl was found unconscious, they said, adding a case has been registered and the victim sent for a medical examination.

Meanwhile, a body of a girl was found in Ganga canal at Khatoli.

The victim's throat had been slit, police said.
