MUMBAI
At your fingertips: Chalo College, brainchild of professor Pankaj Tiwari, aims to reduce hardship for parents and students in finding information about different colleges in the city.
With a view to help parents and students in reducing their hardship in finding information about colleges in the city and the courses they offer, a BSC-IT and MSC-IT professor of Kandivli's KES Shroff College Pankaj Tiwari has created a mobile application called Chalo College.
The application, currently available only on Android, gives detail about every junior college in the state and degree colleges in Mumbai. The app also has an alert option where the cut off list of every college, information regarding admissions and other college-related alerts are update time to time. Other than this, students can also find out previous year's cut off lists of all the colleges.
The application — meant for both junior and degree college students — also provides information of various courses and their scope along with links of various important websites related to admission, results, colleges, among others. Talking about the app, Tiwari said it was established earlier in March this year and took almost six months to put it online. "I have been in teaching profession for the past six years. So, I have been receiving complaints and queries from parents and students regarding colleges and courses to choose. It was then I realised there should be a platform where students can get all these information on their fingertips," he said, adding "This application provides each and every information students want to have before admission. They can then follow the admission process according to actual process easily."
Tiwari informed that he decided to come up with this application in October last year. He along with two other students — Mukesh Gupta and Pankti Kunbi — started working on the app. "We made the application public in March. Now, we have more than 1,200 downloads," said Tiwari.
On being asked if there are questions that the application has not catered to, Tiwari said for such a scenario, the student or parent can email us their queries and we shall do the needful. "So far I have received more than 500 messages from students and parents asking about courses, admission, colleges. I have been constantly receiving calls and many come to my college to meet me personally for clearing their doubts," he added.
People can also post their queries on the app's Facebook page. "I constantly track my mails, WhatsApp messages and Facebook page and try to answer all the questions as soon as possible," said Tiwari.
Seeking help to answer queries
Since the application is now known to many people, lot of questions are being continuously posted online. Due to this, Tiwari is now planning to ask other staff from his college to help him answer the queries."It is now really tough to answer all the questions and manage my job at the same time. So, I will be asking others to join me," said Tiwari.
