While the managing director of the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) Sanjay Bhatia rejected the allotting of remaining flats at Celebrations housing scheme on ownership basis to the engineers appointed by the corporation in 2008, sources said that they (the engineers) are now eyeing the mass housing scheme at sector 36 in Kharghar to fulfil their dream of owning a Cidco house.

According to sources, the engineers have been keen on bagging the flats in the upcoming housing scheme over and above the 5% reserved quota set for Cidco employees.

In 2008, Cidco had conducted a major recruitment drive in its engineering section. The appointees had demanded the administration to allot them houses under the employees quota, but according to the rules those employees who have completed five years in service are only eligible for the same. Since the engineers completed five years this August, they approached the administration through Cidco Engineers Association seeking allotment of the houses.

However, the managing director rejected their plea and told them that the houses in Celebrations can be allotted to them only on rental basis.

“Saddened over the same, the engineers, who are 55 in number, are now trying to convince the administration to allot them houses at the upcoming project so that their dream of owning a house is fulfilled,” sources said.

However, a senior Cidco official, who is also an office-bearer of the Cidco Engineers Association, denied the same and added that they (the engineers seeking houses) will be submitting their applications seeking allotment of the houses as per procedure.

Meanwhile, another Cidco official, requesting anonymity, said, that as per rules, 5% houses at the mass housing scheme will be reserved for Cidco employees, which means that out of the total 4,816 apartments to be constructed by the Cidco for families, some belong to HIG, MIG, LIG and EWS categories. Around 240 will be reserved for corporation employees and these houses will be allotted to them only after public allotment. The rates and other technical details of the housing scheme is yet to be announced by Cidco.
